Since 2017, the Innovation in Politics Awards have celebrated bold and creative political work that addresses real-world challenges across Europe. Founded by the Innovation in Politics Institute and operated by our ScaleDem partner, European Capital of Democracy (ECoD), the Awards highlight the power of innovation to strengthen democracy.
In a time of growing disinformation, polarisation, and public distrust, these Awards recognise courageous leadership and impactful ideas. Finalists are chosen by a jury of over 1,000 citizens from the Council of Europe member states, across eight categories (Democracy, Climate Protection, Circular Economy, Democracy Technologies, Local Development, Education, Social Cohesion and Integration, and Public Health and Ageing Society).
On Wednesday, 17 September 2025, Vienna becomes the meeting point for political innovators, local leaders, policymakers, and changemakers from across Europe. The city currently holds the title of European Capital of Democracy, making it a fitting host for this celebration.
