Since December 2024, ScaleDem has been charting new territory. Not by reinventing the wheel, but by mapping out the roads that can carry democratic innovations further. Now that our engine is running, it is time to reveal what is ahead on the journey!
Sep. 2025 – A workshop to set the direction
The ScaleDem’s Translation Workshop brings together practitioners, researchers, and policymakers to co-design the upcoming open calls.
Dec. 2025 – At a crossroads: our open calls
Two different tracks (the twinning programme and the pilot programme) will invite bold applicants to test and scale their democratic innovations. Get ready to apply and share the route with us!
May 2026 – Resonance space
The Translation Hub’s resonance space brings together thinkers and doers to fine-tune ideas, swap stories, and test drive practical solutions. Expect honest conversations, shared lessons, and new routes to scale.
Oct. 2026-Sept. 2027 – Scaling grounds in motion
The real road-testing begins now, as selected solutions are implemented. These 12-month scaling grounds will explore what it takes to make democratic innovations work in different contexts.
Dec. 2026 – Next stop: bittersweet lessons
This is our repair shop along the way, where we embrace the power of mistakes. These small, closed-door gatherings offer a space for candid reflections and peer learning, where past challenges are turned into valuable insights.
Nov. 2026 – A Theory to support our journey
After months of analysis, our custom-built Grounded Theory of Scaling will help navigate the tricky terrains of context, culture, and policy. It is your travel guide to the conditions, mechanisms, and strategies that allow democratic innovations to thrive across borders.
Dec. 2027 – Policy roadmaps ready
Where are we going, and how do we get there? Our policy roadmaps will show policymakers, public institutions, and civil society the strategic routes for embedding scalable innovations into democratic governance.
March 2028 – Compass to scale democratic innovations
Our final destination: the ScaleDem Compass. This tool will synthesize everything we have learned into an accessible, action-oriented resource to guide the next wave of democratic innovators on their own journeys.
